Kareem Iliya
Perfectly capturing the delicacy of femininity, Iliya's translucent and watery illustrations rely on their striking colours and faded silhouettes to captivate the imagination.

For you...
The innocence of youth: such a precious moment,
that lasts all of a blink of an eye.
Protected and seemingly unaffected,
what does one companion compare to another...
A kiss here, there, moments that gently touch such fragility
but never too far.
A state of envy, is it not?
A single soul, a melody that gently accompanied
arouses those who listen,
Fascinated by its caressing tones, the audience stirs
But a life of her own, she touches hearts but breaks none,
Teases with her wisdom and serenity,
Without such a care in the world!
But Oh! Life! If only it were so simple-
For a glance and the moment is shattered!
A punishment for such flippancy perhaps, or better still,
For the fortune of falling in love!
What irony: surely love cannot come with such pain -
All from a single moment,
When a confession, a whisper, a promise is made
there is no turning back.
But with such youth, who is to know?
Naive, she would run to such closeness,
Welcome such an embrace, that learnt with time,
one should not tire...
But fool! A platter of simple temptations,
a pastime shared or beauty compared,
is all it takes
and the moment is lost, quicker than when it appeared.
So, flip a coin -
What does it mean? Forever yours and love eternal,
All at one time, but, not now, that it seems...
As a butterfly lands on the flower it chooses -
The biggest, the brightest, the one it seemingly looses, so,
Such affection determined by some greater power -
Why One when there are such plenty?
No deny that two melodies may sound well together,
a shall breath and shiver,
such fancy awakes
is all it takes
for some other slight passion to coyly unfold...
But, when time tell is over and enough has been said,
Perhaps what matters the most,
is a moment so shared
And a love that she'll always remember.
Alice Younger, 2007
